Today 10.20.08

The weekend was busy, but not with a lot of ANC activity. I did spend most of the day yesterday volunteering for the DCCA Tour of Homes. Originally I was going to volunteer only early in the day, but ended up subbing for some volunteers who weren't able to make it.

I sent an email today to our PSA Lt. on some public safety issues today. The issues I raised were as follows:

1) I've invited Ed Solomon from the Georgetown ANC to attend the meeting to talk about MPD's new real-time notification service that Ed's ANC was instrumental in pushing for. MPD announced last week they're rolling it out across the city, and Dupont would be a great place for implementation of the Community Crime Alert Program.

2) There have been several attempted break-ins in the last couple of months in the ally immediately north of 1725 17th St., NW. Several residents who are on the alley have been impacted with attempted robberies (bike) and attempted break-ins. Most of these thwarted attempts have occurred during regular daylight hours. Do you have thoughts/suggestions for dealing with this? What can the neighbors be doing differently or better?

3) Can you provide an update of your plans for the high-heel race and for Halloween since it's on a Friday this year? Will there be extra units on duty? Again, anything that the residents can do different/better?

I also met last week with a community member last week to discuss some follow up on the library resolution our ANC passed two months ago. We're hoping other ANCs around the city pass similar resolutions to make the MLK library a true flagship library for the city.
