Please be aware of a couple of hate/bias crimes that have taken place in DC in the last week or so.
Last weekend a good friend of mine, out in Adams Morgan with three additional individuals, was attacked by a group of about 6 individuals. My friend and one companion were badly hurt, the other two sustained relatively minor injuries.
I've also heard that an additional incident took place at 14th & U on Wednesday night, where a single gay man was attacked by several individuals. The crimes are not related, according to Lt. Brett Parson.
Lt. Parson and the Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit are investigating both crimes at this time, and have some good leads. They have my full support. Be aware of your surroundings this weekend, and if you see someone in distress, please call 911. This should be a safe city for everyone, and I am doing my best to make it so.
